The Hidden Cost Nobody Mentions
When you get a website built, the quote covers the build. What it rarely covers is everything after launch: the price change, the new product, the updated phone number, the new photo. If every one of those needs a developer, you pay each time, and you wait each time.
For most small businesses, those small edits make up nearly all the ongoing work. And almost none of it needs a developer.
What You Can Handle Yourself
If your site is built with a proper admin panel, you can do all of this without writing a single line of code:
- Update prices, descriptions and product details
- Add or remove projects, services or listings
- Publish blog posts and news updates
- Change headings, text and images on any page
- Replace contact details and social media links
- Read and respond to customer enquiries
- Approve or hide customer reviews
None of this is advanced. It works like filling in a form or editing a document.
What Still Needs a Developer
Be honest with yourself about the line. A developer is still the right call for:
- Adding a genuinely new feature, such as online payments or a booking system
- Changing how the site is structured or how pages connect
- Fixing technical faults, such as downtime or security problems
- Redesigning the overall look from scratch
The goal isn't to never use a developer. It's to stop paying one for routine edits, so their time goes to work that actually needs them.
What to Ask Before Your Site Is Built
Most businesses only find out their site has no admin panel after it's built. Ask these questions up front:
1. Can I edit every page's text and images myself? Some sites only let you change a few fields.
2. Can I add and remove items without help? Products, projects, services, posts.
3. Who owns the site, the hosting and the domain? These should be registered in your name, not the developer's.
4. Will I get training? A good handover includes a walkthrough of the admin panel.
5. What happens if I need help later? Support should be available, but you shouldn't depend on it for everyday changes.
If the answer to the first three is "no" or "it depends," you're buying a site that keeps you dependent.
Why We Build It This Way
At Navavia, every website and mobile app we deliver comes with an admin panel designed for the business owner, not the developer. The aim is simple: you get a finished product you can run yourself from the first week. We stay available for support, but you shouldn't need us for the routine work.
Getting Started
If you're planning a new site, or you're stuck with one that costs you every time you change a sentence, tell us what your business does and what you'd like to manage yourself. We'll tell you honestly what's realistic.
